Standing Out in Our Field raises more than $120,000 for medical student scholarship

 

BARBOURSVILLE, W.Va. Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine’s Standing Out in Our Field event raised more than $120,000 for its student scholarship endowment. The ninth annual event was held Saturday, August 24, 2024, at the Barboursville Soccer Complex.  

More than 500 guests enjoyed the “Boots and Bling” themed fundraising event and outdoor dining experience featuring music by Santa Cruz, dancing and a boot scootin’ western gourmet menu by Cabell Huntington Hospital’s Executive Chef Don Sallada. 125 current and future medical students, including some in the BS/MD and MD Early Assurance programs, were volunteer servers.  

“The incredible support and participation from our community ensures that we can continue to provide scholarships and educational opportunities for deserving students for years to come,” said Adam Franks, M.D., School of Medicine Class of ‘99, professor, vice dean for rural health and chair of the department of family and community health at the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine. Dr. Franks and his wife Emily are co-chairs of the event planning committee.  

The event’s title sponsor was Marshall Health Network, the school’s major teaching hospital partner.
